A common communication blunder that turns-off customers, is asking them a question without FIRST explaning WHY you're asking. A hair stylist, for example, might want to know what a new client does for a living. Asking directly however, you might put-off the client who is thinking, "Does she want to know how much money I make?". The stylist would get better results by first explaining, "I want to give you a hairstyle that works for your lifestyle." THEN she asks, "What do you for a living?".
