Picture yourself as a customer at a convenience store counter. The clerk bags most of the items you've selected and you carry the fountain drink. So, your hands are full (especially if you're also carrying a purse, jacket, or baby). The clerk hands you your loose change, bills and receipt in one single clump. Now you're juggling to extract the useless receipt to put the cash in your billfold. This unnecessarily frustrates customers. The lesson for retailers - if the customer isn't likely to use the receipt for tax purposes simply put it in the bag. Or ask their preference.
